Andy ,

Before ordering a replacement, find a local auto electric shop and take
the generator to them. These generators are not state of the art and
any decent auto electric shop can rebuild them. The front bearing is a
standard, off the shelf bearing and the bushing probably is too, but if
they don't have one, you can order one from Moss. Have them go through
the generator and tell you what is wrong with it and if they say that
the armature is shot, you can get a new armature from Holcombe Armature
Co. in Georgia (800-241-3027). You can get just an armature from them
or an entire rebuild kit that includes armature, bearing, bushing and
brushes for a very reasonable price. After getting the generator
rebuilt, be sure that you have the least amount of tension you can on
the fan belt and use a fan belt that is segmented on the back side.
This will prevent rapid wear on the rear bushing. See my article
regardign fan belt tension at:
http://www.omgtr.ca/technical/tdtf_fan_belt/loosen_up.htm

Cheers,
Dave
