The 16 tpi is not weird if you are a British auto engineer. On most
of the older British cars there are several larger nuts with threads
of 16 tpi. The thing that is weird is that the 16 threads were used
on all sizes between 3/4" and 1 1/2" diameter for special items like
steering shafts.
