Hi,

First off I'd like to say thank you to everyone who replied regarding the
trouble I had with my TD's oil filter.

As I insisted, I wasn't doing anything wrong as it turns out is was the seal
that was the issue, which if you'll indulge me will make for interesting
reading.

When I removed the oil filter seal I noticed that it had been almost cut in
two by the edge of the filter housing. There is literally a smaller perfect
gasket inside a larger one. Down into the basement I go this morning to get
a replacement. Turns out I have two brands: Crossland and Classic Gold, both
or which were sent to me by Moss at various times when I stocked up on
filters.

I knew I'd used a Classic Gold filter in the last two changes, (and both
seals blew) so this time I pulled out a Crossland one and compared them.
Viola! The Crossland seal is made of a more hard greyish rubber while the
Classic Gold one is much more soft and pliable. As such, the reason why the
bolt was loose was because the spring in the case was acting against the
bolt causing the case to actually cut into the more soft Classic Gold seal.

There it is. I put a Crossland seal in and have been driving it around all
day without any problems.

So the moral of the story is to stay away of Classic Gold filters, or at
least the seal...
