You may still be able to if you use a non-abrasive polish or tarnish
remover and a cloth that doesn't have a nap, (like a diaper).

You can get the tarnish remover at a grocery store, (Tarn-X.  Just be
sure to use a little bit and flush it with a lot of water) but for
delicate polishing the place to go is a gunsmith or jewelry supply
place.

If course if what's "left" isn't very much at all you need to err on
the side of caution.
