The lacquer paint on my '51 TD is 25 years. Maybe because I drive this
little red car so much or maybe just because of age, but there are now
gossamer like cracks (craze) on all painted surfaces. On the right fender
they are all bunched together so are quite obvious. The car still looks
great when polished and seen from a few feet away but if you are close
enough to inspect, they are apparent. I was wondering if anyone on the net
had a solution for removing (filling) these tiny cracks. I am not in the
market for a new paint job (big bucks!).
I tried 1500 wet/dry, followed by 2000 and then polishing compound and
polish and this was quite effective on the cracks. It reduced their
appearance by 50%. Now what can I do to make them disappear entirely?
I have heard that red spotty putty might work, but that would only hold for
a couple of months. I was hoping there was something that could be rubbed
on, then polished over and would be more permanent.
Anyone got any ideas?
