Hi Bob and Lists, I drove four different Austin Healey Sprites for 15 years and they always did that. I just took it to be normal. Like you said, just pulling the shifter towards second, not actually engaging it, allows an easy shift to first. My current TD also does it. Never gave it a seconf thought.
