This water pump replacement project seems to continue with no end...I
did get the bad nut/stud out and got the pump back off the engine. I'm
now trying to get things back together again and I find myself stuck
again.
The problem is the "key", a tiny sliver of metal that goes between the
pump shaft and the pulley to make them spin together. The key is rounded
on one side, and flat on the top. It goes into a rounded slot in the
shaft and when the pump originally arrived it was wedged in there pretty
good. I can still get it back in there pretty tight, but not tight
enough it seems. When I try to slide the pulley over the shaft and key
the key either rocks up in the slot and jams or just falls out.
I spent an hour last night trying to get things together with no
success. Does anyone know a trick that I'm missing that will make this
work?
