No, the Mk II originally had a modified version of the same oil bath air
cleaner used on the standard TD. The reason for the "power bulge" in the
bonnet side panel was that the 1.5 inch SU carbs used on the Mk II had
longer bodies than the 1.5 inch SUs later used on the TF. Without the
bulge, the side panel wouldn't clear the front end of the air cleaner
manifold. You can put TF pancake air cleaners on a Mk II, but clearance
at the front cleaner is usually iffy. If you switch to the shorter-bodied
TF carbs, clearance is no problem.

The factory wasn't always consistant about Mk II engine numbers. Prior to
the introduction of the XPAG/TD2 engine (8 inch clutch), both the standard
XPAG and the Mk II version carried the XPAG/TD designation. When the
switch was made to the 8 inch clutch, the standard TD was XPAG/TD2 and the
Mk II version was usually XPAG/TD3. However there are also known original
Mk II engines out there carrying XPAG/TD2 designations.
