For what It's worth, my TC was hit from behind while stopped at a red
light. The other car was going about 20mph at time of impact, and
fortunately was nose-down under braking. Its bumper hit the TC's frame rails
and lower rim of the spare. We were driven clear across the intersection by
the impact.
Damage to the TC: License plate mounting and tail lights crushed, spare
tire mount very slightly bent, minor dent in fuel tank from the spare tire
mount. No other damage found, and the TC's frame is straight
Admittedly, it was extremely fortunate that the blow was delivered where
it was, and in almost a straight line relative to the TC frame rails.
As for seatbelts, I have and use them in the TC, and will install them in
my VA before putting her back on the road. My feeling is that, even if they
only absorb SOME of the energy of a crash, that's a help, and may just spell
the difference in surviving or not surviving.
