Bob:
BTDT.
I've never seen any instructions that I can remember. Here's the
way I did it. But my top and curtains are one of those CHEAP
VINYL ones and not one of those EXPENSIVE CORRECT(?) ones.
1) Put the hood up. Make sure that the windshield isn't pulled
back when the hood is tightened down. After inserting the hood
bow onto the pins, I pull the hood, and windshield forward as I
tighten the clamps. If the windshield gets pulled back by the
hood, the side screens won't fit correctly with the hood down and
side screens on.
2) Mount the frames. The front of the front frame and the
windscreen should be parallel. The rear of the front frame and
the front of the rear frame should be about parallel and
vertical. At least it was for me on my 3 bow 53 TD.
3) Once you're sure the frames are in the correct position remove
all but the passenger front frame. Do the passenger's side
first. If you goof up to much, you won't see it overtime you get
into the car!
4) Position and mark the front curtains. The front needs to fit
just behind the stantion and flat against the frame. The bottom
flap needs to overlap the top of the door a bit. It must also
slip under the hood material and lie against the flap sewn inside
when the door is closed. It doesn't need to slip up into the gap
between the flap and hood. But, if you're lucky it will pop
slightly under the outside part of the hood when you close the
door. This only works if the door sags slightly and comes up
when it is latched. Use spring clamps to hold the curtain while
you check inside and mark them with chalk.
5) Punch one hole near each corner with a scratch awl or ice
pick. Don't use a hole punch.
6) Temporarily bolt on curtains. Use washers if need be.
7) If everything seems to line up, punch the rest of the holes.
If not, you've got about a 1/4 of wiggle room for new holes
before the old holes will show from under the chrome trim. A
hole made with the awl can be smoothed out and sealed from the
inside if necessary.
7) Mount the chrome trim on the side screen and put the new
assembly back on the car.
8) The back screen is much easier. It must lie under the front
screen, its top and back slipped into the gap between the hood
and the inside flap, and the bottom overlapping the body. It's
front edge should be parallel, but underlying the back of the
front screen. The front edge of the screen should also be
parallel to the front edge of the frame and vertical.
9) Now CAREFULLY cut out the material sewn over the window. Or
mark, the screen with a sewing pencil or chalk where the strips
are, remove the chrome trim, and cut so the raw edge is just
under the chrome trim and not showing. At least that's what I had
to do.
