Bob, This was Road & Track's way of estimating a cruising speed which would give reasonable life-expectancy (i.e. time between major orverhauls) for an engine. It was probably more valid for the older, long-stroke engines such as the MG XPAG/XPEG than it would be for modern short-stroke/over-square engines. I don't think that R&T routinely cites it any longer. Regards, Carl Fritz |
