This can be done, but it reduces the steering lock on one side and increases it
on another. Therefore the car at full lock makes a smaller circle in one
direction and a larger circle the other. The larger circle will cause no
problems but the smaller one, if to small, may overcenter and make it very
difficult to straighten the wheel.

Another remedy which helps some, is to disassemble the rack and rotate the
pinion gear 180 degrees. This will place an unworn section of the pinion in the
straight ahead position. However, on the two TD racks I have dissasembled the
rack seems to wear a lot more than the pinion.
