Stuart, you need to go to the archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=mgt and search for "packing bearings" or something like that as it was thoroughly covered about a month ago. As for getting the bearings off the spindle, I have found that the easiest and least damaging without special tools is to remove the four bolts holding the backing plate and pull on the plate. This can be done without disconnecting the brake line, but I think you have to remove the shoes. Blake |
