There is a rubber bush between the striker wedge and the mounting
bracket. The latch wedge is supposed to be able to rotate some
to help it allign with the latch.

If it actually flops around, then the bush may need replacing.
Your on your own there as I don't think there are parts. I
believe this bush has a steel center. If the mouning plate also
wiggles, then you need to tighten its screws. Two of these
screws are machine screws which go into a backing plate, which is
attached using nut plates on the far side of the wood post. The
other two screws holding the latch plate are wood screws.
Sometimes these wood screws no longer hole. The best repair is
to remove the striker plate, and drill and plug the old holes
with dowling. Then new holes are drilled after the latch is
alligned using the machine screws.
