I cheerfully admit that I've only a dim recollection of Nicson and Holley
setups, and that I am thouroughly enamored of SU carbs. However, I would
point out to you that most of the "hottest" MGs ever to run (e.g. Ken Miles'
Flying Shingle) used SU carbs, at a time when there were at least a
half-dozen aftermarket manifolds for sale which allowed one to fit Holleys,
Zeniths, Webers, etc, etc. As far as I can tell, the chief virtue of those
other carbs was that US owners felt comfortable with working on them, but the
SU plain puzzled the daylights out of them.
If I were you, I'd re-sell the Nicson (or keep it as a curiosity) and get
myself a pair of appropriate-sized SUs. I've heard that Holleys can be
melted down to make acceptable fishing sinkers
