Short oil filter

Hi, All-
Anyone familiar with an oil filter (like now installed on my 49 TC)
that is very similar in appearance to the two piece cast aluminum
job but is only about as long as the top half only? I have a spare oil
filter in a box that came with the car, but too old to use (nos, but water
damaged box, ect).
It is an aluminum can, with a bottom flat lid that has a hex fitting in the
center.
Maybe I should start over with a new two piece, as the filter seems
common...
