Thanks to all that replied on this subject. Looks like I bought a real
Frankenstein yesterday. A 1952 TD frame with a body from another car of
the same year, a 1953 title, an MGB engine with overdrive transmission,
Triumph TR3 gauges, and a two-bow top! The car is otherwise pretty much
complete.
Quite a story, actually. The car belonged to a local repair shop that
inserted the MGB engine and cut up the body to make a TD pickup, like the
one Moss has. This took place in the early eighties. My contact bought
it when the shop moved and decided to get rid of it before completing it.
The new owner threw away the pickup body and bolted on another body.
The 1967? MGB engine was supposedly completely rebuilt, but never run.
I think it would make a near impossible restoration, since there is
nothing left of the TD running gear. I bought it as a parts car for the
'51 I'm restoring. It came with a brand-new, in the box, Moss two-bow
top hood (which will fit my '51) and side curtain covers. It also has a
new set of bumpers that I need.
It came also with two (count 'em TWO) fiberglass hard tops! The tops are
of two different designs, obviously from two different manufacturers.
Anybody know anything about these? I'm interested in offers, since I
don't expect I'll keep them.
There is also a great pile of spares, including an extra gas tank and
spare tire carrier (offers?) that I will sell to recoup my investment.
I haven't even picked it all up yet, and there is much, much more. Let
me know if any of you are looking for anything. I'll try to get a list
together once I have it all sorted out.
Thanks again!
