I have run into this problem before, curiously enough with a shop manual on 
disc for one of my other collector cars!  It that case it will only open 
with Adobe Acrobat Version 4.0.  Any newer version won't work!  Fortunately, 
the disc's publisher had the presence of mind to install Acrobat Reader 4.0 
on the disc to make things a little easier!
