Terry & Dan & guys,
The J5 was cataloged as an unsupercharged J4 but none were ever ordered
or built. A preselector gearbox was also listed as an option on the J4 & J5
but I don't think any were actually fitted to the 9 J4's produced.
Re Dan's question on the oil fedline tap, these little valves are
exactly like the larger radiator drain taps. Leaking taps can normally be
repaired
by simply dismantling them and re lapping the tapered valve cock against the
tapered seat using valve grinding compound. Keep working it back & forth
till you get a nice even appearance on both tapers. A new spring is often
required as these frequently get rusty ( particularly on the water taps) I
believe these little oil line taps were fitted to most of our cars but the
reason
for them escapes me?...Maybe to shut off the oil pressure gauge if low oil
pressure is too depressing to worry about??
Glad to hear Dan's P-type is back amongst the ranks of drivers!
Cheers,
Chris
