I have to disagree with Terry's statement .... This is a very poor application for a needle bearing in any case being mostly static..... Both my J2 and L1 are 69 years old and their handbrakes have the original needle bearings in their cross-shafts. I learned to drive a MMM car in the thirties and was told to use the handbrake whenever necessary, think about the extra leverage you get compared to the footbrake. I still drive my MMM cars that way and if everybody did then the bearings wouldn't freeze up. They were never meant to be "mostly static".
