Hi all,
is there somebody, who was successful in using aluminium or bronce-alloy
for main bearings in a MMM-engine.
My lawn-mower has done during the years ever so many millions revolutions
with the crank running in aluminium, and this often under most uncomfortable
conditions.
Nothing to say against white-metalling, it is a well working and tested system,
but at least here in Germany it is now difficult to find the specialist with
experience and know-how.
And when, after several rebuilds of the engine in 65 years, the dimensions
of the centre main bearing (and con-rods) necessitates a much to thick
layer for white-metal, a new solution has to be found.
Say for a P-type it needs not to much skill, to make from solid two aluminium
bushes for the front and rear main-bearing, and the two half-shells for
the centre-main are also not really a problem.
The line-boring process afterwards is the same then as with white-metal.
The only secret obviously is the treatment of the crankshaft,
and to find the suitable mixture of alloy !!
It would be nice to hear a echo from a MMM-fan,
who was "learning by doing".
Cheers, Gerhard Maier
