My friend Larry is a friend of the guy who does the clutch on the Morgan Lucas
top fuel dragster . He was hanging around with them at the Maple Grove NHRA
National meet a couple of weeks ago and asked the fuel system guy how they are
set up these days . They have 4 sets of nozzles , 1 set for idle , 3 sets for
racing . The idle nozzles are directly into the chamber next to the spark
plugs . Of the race fuel 1/3 goes in the hat , 1/3 in the ports and 1/3 in the
chambers near the idle nozzles . The chamber nozzles all have check valves so
they flow from the end of the exhaust stroke till early in the compression
stroke . The idle nozzles each have a carb type jet . All 3 sets of race
nozzles get the same fuel pressure .
The exhaust valves must get cooled better by having the nozzles in the chamber
. The check valves would have to be pretty tough .
