It seems that the next question should be what happens if the decrease
and then subsequent increase of the coke bottle shape does not exceed
the 6 % rule for laminar flow?
Another thought is that if, the longer the surface distance from front
to back the greater the potential drag, then a coke bottle shape would
increase that distance over a straight line and thereby might balance
out any advantage that the coke-bottle shape offers. But I'm a total
neophyte and these things just popped into my head.
