I always felt the large gains were found at the highest RPM range. I have
spoken to some who feel there is not much to be gained around 5000 rpm. Over
the years I have played with oil pans because a lot could be gained for a
lot less money than a $750 oil pump plus lines and a tank. Total of a $1000
was ez to come up with.
An oil pan with kick out sides the total length, correctly designed windage
trays, pan attached scraper and a crank/rod scraper seemed to meet my needs
for just a cost of a pan. I since have added a single stage external pump.
(seems I found some money and E-Bay)
I showed up at El Mirage in 1993 with a converted smog pump pan evacuation
and nobody knew what it was. Gained an immediate 5 mph and the engine didn't
bleed any more.
Each person should study the engine they are going to use and get the
biggest bang for the buck. and always look to improve in the coming years.
New things and ideas come out and if you wait for the best you will be
waiting for ever....J.D.
