Actually, a barrel of oil is 42 gallons. For those interested, here is
how a typical barrel of oil is broken down at the factory:
Chemical feedstock 1.2 gallons
refinery gas 1.9 gallons
gasoline 19.5 gallons
kerosine 4.1 gallons
diesel fuel 9.2 gallons
lubrucants 0.5 gallons
fuel oil 4.1 gallons
bitumen 1.3 gallons
LPG 1.9 gallons
I am sure this is different for different refineries and the products
they make. Ditto for whether or not it islight sweet crude or heavy.
The Powerstroke list has been really bitching about the cost of diesel
so I listen closely. Exxon released their 2 nd quarter profits and it
was about 10B dollars at 8.6 percent rate. For 1 quarter of the year.
However, that is based on sales as it should be. BAnks make nearly 20
per dollar of sales. Per who ever sent the graph, Tom B I think. What
makes the profits huge is that we consume lots of barrells of oil. I
also do not understand the SUV bashing. Most SUV's sold are the modified
minivan type which get pretty decent fuel mileage. The big H2 size along
with the Suburbans, Excursions, etc are in the moniority. I suspect, but
do not know, that the Average US fuel economy is barely influenced by
SUVs. Every barrel of oil can be d=broken down as to who uses it. I
suspect that that breakdown is out there for some one in the group to
find. Maybe I'll look.
