Keith,
Jerry Spotts was driving Jack Lufkin's car (in '7x ?) when is got loose and he
released the chute. The car was at or over 300 which was at least 50 mph
faster than the chute had ever been deployed at before. The chute hit hard,
the back lifted and then came back down with enough force to unload the
front. With the chute out, the nose came up and the car flew several feet
above the track while doing a 180 roll. It landed on it's roll bar and came to
a stop. Jerry didn't have any physical injuries but the car was a total loss.
The
chassis was a beautiful 60 vintage indy car type, chrome molly, torsion bar
beauty built by his friend, Frank Curtis.
This is just an example of what can happen if the chute isn't mounted
correctly.
I suggest you also test the chute at Bonneville.
Take care,
Bryan
