Bondurant already has cars there for a driving school. A former World
Champion motorcycle racer ... I wasn't familiar with the name ... will
have a driving school there for riders too. The first kart races will
be next weekend on the first part of the facility to be completed, a
2.1 mile course. The stands and garage area are very attractive from
the drawings they showed. The drivers who addressed the crowd in the
Delta Center tonight were high in their praise of the course predicting
extremely high speeds on a course they described as technically
demanding but fast. This won't replace the salt with a long straight
but it should give a shot in the arm for the racing scene in Utah and
the Intermountain West. Racing personalities and officials who were on
the track today were talking about the course and comparing it
favorably with Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca, Daytona, Road Atlanta but
giving credit to the designer for paying attention to todays drivers
and making the course safe but challenging at the same time. It's a
flat course, access to the Desert Peak Recreation Facility nearby is by
two lane roads currently but an access road from I-80 to Tooele is
being widened to four lanes for about five miles.
