How to answer?

Kind of off topic. Had some people come by this week that are not 
racers. After looking at my cars, I was asked " why do you do this"? 
Thinking about an answer I came up with " If you have to ask the 
question, you will never understand the answer"?
I don't have a better answer. Maybe someone out there has a better
