The most efficient piston engine on the planet right now is the Diesel. Number 2 Diesel Oil has the highest BTU rating of all of the fuels we can use in the internal combustion engine. Because internal combustion Otto Cycle engines are "heat" engines it makes sense to burn fuel with a very high heat content to get maximum power and miles per gallon.
