As I understand it the theory behind rod/stroke ratio is the lower the
ratio the quicker the piston gets half way down which sucks better on the
intake stroke but gives a hurried final push while the exhaust valve is
closing - The intake port and valve needs to be large to take advantage of the
more rapid gulp - With a low ratio and big intake ports there's more mid range
power but the negatives with the exhaust hurts the high end power - A higher
ratio works better with a higher revving or a nitrous or supercharged engine
where there's more need for good exhaust flow .
