There was a class called Sports Racing that was created for all out cars
like
CanAm racers. It was in the book from the '60's to the '70's when it was
rewritten into the current Gas Streamliner class after Jack Lufkin's car
crashed.
Jacks good friend Frank Curtis built the chassis and beautiful Aluminum
body,
and Jack got advise and help from almost everyone in the Hot Rod after
market
industry. Jerry Spotts was driving when at the end of a 300+ run, he pulled
the chute. The back end was jerked off the ground when the chute hit. It
came
back dow, hit hard and unloaded the front. The car took off and at an
elevation
of about 15 feet, did a neat 180 roll and landed on the salt. Jerry was
not injured
but the car was a write off. Jack's car was the only active entry at
that time.
