Yes, absolutely! The metal cannot be too clean; poor quality welds
result if all surfaces aren't clean.

I use Scotchbrite and MEK to clean inside & outside the tubing before
braze welding mild steel or 4130N.

List, when welding chrome moly tubing, does any of you clean the inside
of the
tube prior to welding? and if so with what?
I've  tried cleaning the inside of the jointed (fishmouthed) tube today
with a
Scotch pad, and the weld appears nicer to look at (which doesn't mean
stronger). Any thoughts?
