One of the best engines ever, great for trucks, and trans ams! I vote for a
TH400 too, then you can
just ignore everything. I greatly prefer manual transmissions in trucks, but
there's no pilot
bearing hole in the Cadillac crank, but it would be easy for a machine shop to
make one. I'm not
sure which BOP manual trans would be good if I ever went down that path.

There's not a great selection of cams, intakes, etc., like other engines. The
Edelbrock intake is
better than the stock GM, but I've heard that there is still some mixture
distribution problems (per
cylinder) with it.
The rod side clearances are a little tight, so some of the racers will take a
little off the side
for better oil flow (out) and to not have problems when the temperatures get
really hot. The various
heads that GM used are interchangeable, but for example swapping the early 472
heads on the 500 will
give like 12+:1 compression. For a truck, I'd like that low factory 8.5:1
compression, good for all
that on the road crappy gas. There's variety with oil pans too, the FWD vs. the
RWD.
