I had a cratering problem when welding some steel tubing today, TIG,
straight polarity, 1/16" thick
1" square tubing, nothing fancy. But, about 50% of my welds will have at
least one bubble hole, a
couple just bubbled and boiled and looked like swiss cheese. The rest of the
welds were perfect, >>
It sounds like some kind of contamination ( oil, or scale ) grind to bright
metal and try it. Also you can have too much gas flow or too small a cup which
will pull air in the weld and cause a problem, also make sure you are using
tig wire not gas welding wire
