Bill, It was me that asked. And yes I did get find out what I wanted to know.
The reason I asked was for a friend that does body work and has to work on
an aluminum body car. He asked if I knew anything about the special goggles
that you need in order to be able to see the aluminum as it is getting
molten. I knew that years ago they had some that I thought were called Blue
Cobalt. I guess that they have all been recalled because they do not protect
your eyes when you arc or welded steel. Long story, but the bottom line is now
for about $110 you can get goggles that will work. My friend has ordered
some and will let me know how he likes them. My interest in this is the fact
that our streamliner is put together with 15 aluminum panels. I figured I
might have to repair or change something and not want to TIG it for some
reason. Just looking for the best way to do it.
Texas must be full of old welders. I learned to gas weld cast iron from an
old boy in Texas that would bet you a Moon Pie and a RC cola you could not
find where he had welded up a crack in cast iron. He won every time. Doug
