frontrunner rim question

The front runners in the sizes we seem to use recommend a rim width of 4-4.5 
inches.  Has anyone used a little wider rims with them?  The reason I ask is I 
have a bunch of suitable 6 inch wide rims and being on the poor side of racing 
would like to use them instead of getting new ones.
