Malcolm,
IF I may add a few things here.
"Art Arfons Jet powered two wheeler....As a two wheeler vehicle it did not
have an FIM class to enter at that time. It also crashed"
This vehicle from historic records and from Arfons himself on this vehicle
was after he hit the afterburner this jet powered motorcycle actually lifted
off the ground and flew. He did in fact wreck after a claimed 400+ mph run.
When they found him he was moving but didnt walk right for about 6 weeks he
stated and the first words out of his mouth were, "I think I goosed it too
much." So he is probably the fastest man ever to wreck a motorcycle and
survive. Makes Ron Cooks wreck in the 190's seem so insignificant.
"The FIM Technical Staff have told me that they had nothing to do with the
SMI Motivator or the Budweiser Rocket vehicle attempts on the Alvord Desert
and Edwards/Muroc respectively."
This team has stated on more then one occasion that they did not want a land
speed record. That is why no FIM timing. Their goal was to break the sound
barrier. And as controversialy as it is, he did do just that as stated by
their claims, the air force, telemetry and on board computers. As the air
force records state with their equipment stated he did in fact break the
sound barrier. So why is no one accepted? The air force signed their name to
it. It was the same equipment that measures speed in aircraft, Do we
question that? But the point is Budweiser rocket car did not car about the
official lsr record, just the sound barrier. So wouldnt that make Andy Green
second? OK lets here the flames on that one.
