Jim & list,
In reference to the BLM fee situation, a couple of emails were forwarded
to me last week by Bob Brissetti. I will include them in this reply. We
knew this was coming, but I think that SCTA has some leverage which may
help the racers.

W E L L-----I'd heard rumors but now its official, starting in OCT 2003
the BLM plans on charging an entrance fee TO EVERYONE. It will goes
something like this $ 10.00 per day, $20.00 for a weekend or you can buy
a season pass for $60.00(per vehicle) This afternoon I spent 4 1/2
hours in a meeting at the BLMs Southern District Offices. Their plan
was cut & dry, nobody had any input PERIOD. I asked several questions,
like "how can you charge & for what"?, we have been waiting for at least
2 years for the paving of Mtn View, the second question was what about
the area north/west of me with no fence. The BLM does not have complete
control of the entire area. What about the people who have not sold or
do not want to sell (with "inholdings"), how can the BLM collect fees on
land they do not own. I feel that they are rushing this "fee collecting
a bunch". Kalback is going to the El Mirage Steering Meeting on the 13th
& I am having him to ask the local BLM people same questions. "GRUMPY"
Bob, The BLM offered a big discount on the yearly pass' if bought in
bulk. That's the way SCTA could help the regulars or who buys a SCTA El
Mirage season pass. George
