I live in the Hawke's Bay province on the east coast of the Nth Island.
Hawke's Bay is referred to as the "Fruit bowl of NZed'
The apple picking season has just come to an end and its been a reasonably
good one for growers so lots more to come. What isn't exported straightaway is
held in atmosphere controlled sealed store which is about 95% nitrogen. Got
lots of friends in the industry from growers to transport companies to
refrigerated containers where my son Lincoln is an engineer. We had to do a
through the night drive a few days ago. We were in Auckland 300 or so miles
away loading the roadster and he got a call to check 8 reefer boxes on a ship
ready to sail as he was rostered on as the on-call engineer. Try the Royal
Galas and Pacific Rose varieties as well.

Just wanted to say thanks to our friends down in NZed for sending those
"Pick Mee" Braeburn apples up here. They appeared in the produce dept.
of my supermarket yesterday. $1.59 a pound, and worth it; my favorite
apple, and with a name like that, who could resist! Not me.
It's mid-summer here in Coastal Virginia, USA, the hummingbirds are
flying happily around in our garden, but down in New Zealand it's of
course mid-winter.
So if anybody down there has any friends in the apple industry, give 'em
my compliments, they get those tasty apples up into our produce
department in perfect condition. And the whole process represents 'Good
