Glen B is right about the salt that you can't seem to get out no matter what
you do. Last year we stopped Provo and spent about $30 at our favorite car wash
trying to get the salt off our race truck and trailer. Three of us weilded the
wand in every angle and direction we could imagine under the truck. When we
pulled out we went over a small speed bump (slowly). When I looked back I saw a
lump of salt from under the truck, the size of a walnut, hit the trailer deck.
If you are dealing with an old car like your Stude you really have a problem.
Talk to Bernie Brown....He and Jim Levack ran one back in the 70s and each year
when the brought it back to our humid climate after a trip to Bonneville they
watched it disolve before their eyes no matter what they did. Don't know how
many frames and bodys they used up....lot more available then than now. In my
opinion (and it's only worth what it cost you) the best plan is prevention.
Plan out your project.....weld as many of the brackets on
the frame and body as you can think of....including the mounts for the roll
cage. Put off building the cage as long as you can so you can do a frame off
rust prevention program after as much cutting and welding as possible. Do not
cut any corners here. Prepare every surface possible for a good primer and
paint system. For the places you can't get to with sand paper, wire wheel or
sand blast use chemistry. I get some stuff that works like Ospho but is better
from the Shrimp Boat Store. I don't remember what it is called but if you want
I will find out. I am out of it right now and need some more anyway.

                             Glenn

I know we went through all of this a couple of years ago, but......... What
should I do to my truck and trailer (and race car) to protect it from rust from
the salt? I remember the part about parking it over a lawn sprinkler all night,
but there were a couple of replies about stuff to spray on the undercarriage
BEFORE going onto the salt.
