John
I envy you guys in the special construction catagorys...you have so much more
control of your own destiny. In the production catagorys about all we can do is
lower it as much as possible and add a little weight as required. I started
this thing way too late in life but I think I need to get some experience
before I go for the gusto. I hope to graduate to a modified sports someday if I
live long enough.

Glenn, you are correct, CG and CM are the same. They
both refer to a balance point. What I am apparently
not saying properly is that even though you have a
balance point of mass, the height of that mass plays
an important roll in straight line handling. This is
especially true when you look at mass in small
sections. In my lakester, the height of mass varies
greatly as I traverse down the centerline of the car.
For me to understand what mass is really doing, I
believe I need to know at what height it is expressed
for the entire length of the car, i.e. plotting the
centroid axis. This difference is how I have always
distinguished between CG and CM. Centroid axis has
helped me differentiate by looking at mass in these
small sections.
