Meet was great for me! Some of my highlights include
- The first vehicle I saw run down the track when I arrived Saturday was Sam
Samson's car. I had to do a double take & then went on with - wasn't that
Sam's car, how, who, what... ?! What a great surprise to see they're going on
with the quest! I really dig that!
- The diesel truck was awesome running down the track! Low quiet & fast!
Awesome to watch!
- Being at the very end of the shut down track & seeing Tonya whip that car
around the hairpin turn at the end at what seemed like 35mph (all the while
going shit I hope she see's me & the pit bike at the edge of the concrete!
hehehe) It's a whole other perspective from that vantage point! I'm impressed
to say the least!
- Seeing Lee run Thomas' "In The Middle Racing" 250 Rebel to 90mph! Probably
the most exciting record I saw all weekend. It's just something about pushing
those small cc engines to respectable speeds - not to mention how excited the
team was!
- I had a blast running my bike! Didn't get much out of it as we were
fighting electrical gremlins & fuel starvation but I got some great seat
time! I also got good experience making less them optimum runs. There's
something to say about practicing what to do on a bad run. I enjoyed my
parade laps turning off just prior to the timing tower but could have done
without the last run where she shut down on me. I pulled the pin & let her
coast as far as I could then started pushin her to get the heck off the
track. Joe's response time to me was excellent as was my pit truck to get us
off the track. Again, invaluable experience on how to handle the not so good
runs. I came away with a few things to work on & that always makes for a
positive meet in my mind. When the bike was running it was running great. She
has great torque & about knocked me off the back a couple times when she
hooked up after choking. I look forward to getting her back together & making
another stab at it. That little Sprint is such a fun bike to ride & handles
like a dream!
I guess it's back to the drawing board for our team. We'll have to make a
plan on which bike gets attention now. Todd's is getting close to done & mine
may need to come apart. We may have hurt the engine on the last run having
run entirely too lean. It's all good tho, it just opens the door to start
working on some of the modifications we've discussed. We're in it for the
long haul so being down & without a bike for a meet or two is definitely not
going to keep us out!
