Jon, Malcolm, Ardunbill & List:
thanks for confirming my memory re: MC streamliner LSR history.

Also good to know that this new Brit effort is nearer fruition than it
appeared from their website.

In principle, I agree with Ardunbill that Sam Wheeler's approach to LSR in a
MC streamliner makes the most sense, has the best chance of success (Sam's
"E-Z Hook" is in a class by itself, for engineering). On the other hand, to
me Uttley's approach doesn't seem exactly "shade-tree", either. I
anticipate some fairly sophisticated engineering from them.

And lastly-- the "Easyriders" bike and the "Silver Bird" (current and last
record holders) are NOT very sophisticated, at all. Just 2-wheeled American
hot-rods-- with a lot of power, and A LOT of rider! So it CAN be done
without a tremendous amount of engineering.

I'm no SCTA Inspector, but from my viewpoint the Puma motor would appear to
qualify both as a "single" engine and as an engine constructed "for
motorcycles"-- the last point being very important if a bike is to run under
SCTA sanction. I hope we get to see its potential.

List,

Gabe Uttley came out to bonneville with his student class from Britian a few
years ago, I want to say in 2000. They brought a stock ZX12 and also an
older Suzuki. They went just a tich over 190 on the stock Zx12. And I
beleive in the 170's on their other bike. Great deal. Gabe is a instructer
at a school and he brought his high school class over, they built the older
bike and came and raced it. Really a "class act"
Gabe has emailed recently and told me about the project and sent pictures, I
dont think they are that far behind as stated in the article. I will email
Gabe and see what status is on the project.
I read on his website that in 1937 Brits owned the motorcycle land speed
record at 169.791 mph by Eric Fernihough.Fernihough
Here is his website which is also listed on my links page.
