That's right, Dick, the Flathead Ford whether a V8-60 or big Flathead,
makes a unique growl that I suppose results from the exhaust pulses
bouncing all around in the exhaust ports on the way out. In nitro or
blown nitro form it makes a huge roar. But the Hemi exhaust note is a
different thing, and I suppose it results from the short straight
exhaust ports which each give a distinct hard crack when the exhaust
valves open. A nice set of tuned straight pipes adds a lot too. The
sounds are definitely part of the fun of the speed trials experience.
