Recently found qualification & training requirements for our Special Forces
troopers and thought it both timely and interesting enough to pass on.
minimum application requirements--all volunteer, must already be
airborne-qualified, with a minimum 120 IQ
PHASE I--SF Assessment and Selection--25 days, test of emotional and
psychological make-up, endurance, strength, will, and mental toughness,
ability to function effectively in a high stress environment under conditions
of sleep-deprivation, ability to swim while wearing boots and uniform.
PHASE II--Land navigation,small unit training, and live fire exercises--48
days
MOS Training ( Military Occupational Specialties )
weapons--2 months
engineer---2 months
medic----12 months
comm-----4 months
PHASE IV Training--58 days, unconventional warfare field training exercise in
simulated foreign country working with and against civilians and
counterinsurgency forces. survival and escape/evasion training
Language Training, 4 to 6 months
SF Graduation
Continued Training--combat scuba diver training, free-fall military
parachuting, intense formal cultural education in the individual's foreign
area of focus.
Note--Drop out rate during PHASE I alone used to be 70%, but has been reduced
to 50% due to more stringent preliminary screening.
