Keith & all. for what it is worth- not much, but my personal thoughts are
the real advantages of dry sump are:
1. they are great for round track, no loss of oil pressure in the turns from
lack of oil from centrifugal force, especially road courses.
2. you can hook up the same belt to the fuel pump, lose the belt, stops the
engine with no harm done to engine due to no oil pressure.
3. you can run a lot of oil which can keep the engine cooler especially if
run through a cooler.
4. dry sump pans are more shallow allowing a lower center of gravity.
I do not see a lot of application on LSR or drag cars we did, of
course have a dry sump system on our midget cars- linked with the fuel
pump.
