Dave This is exactly what I was trying to get at with the thread I started 2 or 3 weeks ago. I read (in some MSD promotional BS) that their systems work all the way down to 9 volts. Don't know if I believe that. On the other hand I have read that their systems really like 18 volts. In our case we run 2 batterys anyway. One is a large one to be sure we have plenty of power for the electric water pump. What I proposed was the second battery could be a 6 volt in series to make 18 for the ignition. If you make any serious power or run over 7000 rpm I am real sure you ought to have one. The dwell time for a coil is fixed.. if you lower the voltage the power for the spark is proportionately less..especially with inductive ignition. a cd is not as bad but it is made to step up the battery to around 500 volts for the coil primary this is with 13.7 to 14 volts. if you only have 12 do the math.. If you have a bike engine that turns 14000 rpm voltage is everything in my book. Dave --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
