Hey Bob, I am not positive but I think that 315 V8 in that Dodge Lancer
you
heard of was not a Hemi but a Wedge engine with a HP rating of 260 ...... and
it had a bore and stroke of 3.63 " X 3.80 ". They were pretty quick in their
day,
and, although it probably had a larger engine and two fours, my buddy tangled
with a 1957 DeSoto Adventurer one summer afternoon in East Los Angeles,
when I lived in nearby Bell ( four blocks from the old BELL Auto Parts of
West Coast hot rod history .) We were in John's barebones, no heater, no
radio ' 57 Chev two door with 283 " 283 HP fuelly V8, four speed, and 4.56
posi gears, and it was a local freeway eliminator that he also ran at Pomona .
He got into a stoplight have-at-it with this good looking Lancer, and
he had to drive it out the back door to win this race !!! I kept looking
over
and waiting to see that Dodge's fender fall behind, which didn't happen till
we were both over the century mark ......That Lancer hardtop sure made a
believer out of both of us !!! I was working at the East LA Chrysler
assembly
plant at the time, so I made it a point, after that, to use my lunchtime to
go
down the assembly line to where I could look over those Adventurer engines .
All in all, quite a package for its day ...... in both looks and performance
!
Just another neat memory from my misspent and wonderful youth !!!
Bruce
....... whose only Mopar ever was a 35$ 1947 Plymouth four door parts hauler
and work beater that I ran and ran and ran until I literally knocked the rods
out
of it,seizing it up,and coasted home and the junkman gave me exactly 35$
for it !!! The year was' 62 and I had forsaken flatheads for SB Chevs for
both
street and strip draggin' ......... Ahhh the Good Old Days !
