After following this thread for a while and giving some thought to various
methods , my down under logic believes that the best solution to high speed
parachute deployment lies in a " variable porous canopy " maybe some thing
along the lines of a large flap opening with a mechanism allowing the flap to
be drawn in to increase or decrease drag as required it could be deployed
with say flap open providing 10% of the parachutes total drag there by
decreasing greatly the shock loading then the flap could be drawn in on a
speed vs. time vs. weight scale until it was fully closed, this is but an idea
at present ,does anyone know if this idea has been perused before ,does it
merit further investigation ?
