Anti Virus programs are a major target of viruses (virii?) and Tom is
absolutely correct. A properly
set up and protected system is more likely to be damaged by lightning
than a virus. I am partial
to Norton because IBM had one of the first groups of dedicated anti
virus programmers back
in the early '90's at one of IBM's research labs. I watched two of those
guys demonstrate how
easy is was for an expert to blue screen a PC. It didn't matter if it
was Windows or OS/2, it took
them about 10 seconds to crash it. Several years ago the product,
including patents and some
researchers were sold to Symantech.
If you have a direct connection like DSL or satellite and are not using
a firewall, you may find yourself
in an interesting position. A very, very interesting position.
